 SCHOOL BUS

 Morning:

Western Run:  from Waiti Road along Ohinewai/Tahuna Highway turning on to Quine Road and turning at Kauri Road to return to Ohinewai/Tahuna Highway to school.

Eastern Run:  from school along Morrinsville/Tahuna Road, turning into Tahuna/Paeroa Road, turns north up Highway 27, into North Road and returning to Highway 27. It Continues north to Hart Road, turns and travels back along Highway 27, into Pioneer Road, back to school.

Afternoon:

The Eastern run is done first.

ABSENTEES

Parents/caregivers are asked to ring the school before 9am  if their child is not attending school that day.  Pupils who are absent from school must have a note of explanation when they return or parents/caregivers can telephone the school. An answerphone operates if the phone is unattended.

HOMEWORK 

Homework is set at the teachers discretion but all pupils are expected to do some reading at home from either a book from school or a personal book.

WITHDRAWAL OF PUPILS DURING SCHOOL HOURS

Please consider school hours when arranging appointments for your children, teachers have planned all this time for the education of your child.  In some cases appointments during school hours are unavoidable, in these cases please let the school know prior to pupils being collected, or in times of urgency please telephone the school.  When picking children up during school hours please come to the classroom to collect your child.  If parent/caregiver is unable to pick the child up and someone else is collecting them please let the school know.

Educating and welfare of your child is our concern. If there are any problems which may hinder this, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

SCHOOL TRIPS 

Pupils attend a number of sporting, social and cultural activities throughout the year.  To do this we require parents to provide transport.  When transport is required parents are notified through the newsletter. Permission from parents / caregivers for pupils to go on trips are requested each time. Generally a signed form is returned to school giving permission.

NEWSLETTERS 

A newsletter is sent home every Wednesday afternoon with the most reliable member of the family attending school.  A Community Newsletter is published twice a term and distributed by rural delivery.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

No daily school uniform exists but children are encouraged to wear Tahuna School T-shirts and black shorts on sports days and special occasions. T-shirts can be purchased from the school.

Term 1 and Term 4, Red School hats are compulsory for any outdoor activity including sport days, this is in keeping with our Sun-Smart Policy. There is a charge of $2 in Terms 1 and 4 for the lease of a school hat. This cost covers repairs and maintenance.

The school has a photocopier and a laminator available for use by the public during school hours.

Photocopies:      20 cents for a single sided A4 copy

                          35 cents for a double sided A4 copy

                          20 cents for a single sided A3 copy

                          35 cents for a double sided A3 copy

                          Colour copy:  A4 - $1.00, A3 - $1.20

                          Laminating:  $1.50 A4 and $2.00 for A3

The total amount for photocopying will be rounded up to the nearest 10 cents. 

SCHOOL POOL 

Due to an arson of the pool changing sheds in December 2006 and tighter regulations placed on schools operating a school pool during holiday time the use of the pool outside school hours is under review by the BOT.

STATIONERY 

Pupils are supplied with a stationery list during the first week of term one and parents have an option to buy this through the school or purchase elsewhere. The school purchases in bulk so as to keep costs competitive.  Pupils can purchase replacement and incidental stationery from school throughout the year, accounts for this are sent home at the beginning of each term.  There is a paper charge/activity fee of  $15.00 per term / per child.

SCHOOL REPORTS - PORTFOLIOS                                                             Back to top

Portfolios are sent home at the end of terms two and four.  Each portfolio covers 2 years of schooling. These are a cumulative record of pupils work and may include self assessments and teacher evaluations. A balance of curriculum assessments are included by the end of each year.  Parents are encouraged to share these assessment documents with their children and to include a parent comment.

Parent and Child, Teacher (PACT) interviews are held twice a year to set and review individual achievement goals.

 CHILDREN'S HEALTH

Please contact school with any pupil related health problems, allergies, hearing, sight, etc. so we are aware if problems arise.

 DENTAL CLINIC

 Children’s dental needs are met by visiting dental nurses once a year, in a mobile clinic situated at school.  Pre-school children are also treated at this time.  Times of visits are notified in the newsletter.  If there are any concerns regarding dental care please contact the school.

 SCHOOL BANKING 

The school has a banking partnership programme with The National Bank. Children are encouraged to bank weekly and start a savings plan. Banking days are on a Tuesday morning before school.
