Parental
Involvement
Involving you as parents,
caregivers and community in the learning that occurs at Tahuna is
important. We hope you feel part of the school environment, free to
contribute in any way.
We have an open door policy
and welcome your visits to the school. The office should always be your
first point of contact to ensure that disruptions to learning programmes are
kept to a minimum.
We acknowledge that many
members of our community have tremendous skills and strengths to share with
us. We value contributions that assist us to provide a quality learning
environment for our students.
The Board has established
a ‘Friends of the School’ (F.O.S) committee in 2006. The role of F.O.S is to
support the Board and school through key fundraising activities and provide
assistance with school events.
Student Responsibilities
All students are
encouraged to take responsibility for themselves - their learning and their
actions. This is an integral part of every programme that operates in
Tahuna.
Our ultimate aim of
discipline within our school is to lead students to an appropriate level
of self-discipline.
We aim to provide a fair
and consistent approach to discipline as well as clear guidelines for
acceptable behaviour. We emphasise the positive and select child appropriate
consequences for inappropriate behaviour when necessary.
As part of fostering
student responsibility, student leaders are appointed each year. These
include House Captains, Librarians and Bus monitors. These students are
selected by their peer group and staff. Training is then provided in these
areas.
Where possible other
specific tasks are delegated to students to ensure they maintain ownership
of their school.
