My name is Katherine Murphy and I teach in Adventure Room.. We have made a fantastic start to 2018 here in Adventure Room! Our class this year is made up of an enthusiastic bunch, consisting of mostly Year Four students, with a few Year Threes.
Our school-wide Inquiry Learning this term has been based around Science, which has led us into all types of research on Marvellous Minibeasts! We have learnt about and researched many different insects, and even had the chance to eat some edible insects - as well as acquiring some new class pets! It was awesome to see some students move out of their comfort zones and try something different.
Butterfly Creek Visit
On Monday we went up to Butterfly Creek in Auckland to build on their learning about bugs and insects this term. “It was a fun trip. I loved walking through the butterfly house and having all the butterflies landing on me. I learnt that butterflies like to have a warm environment. We got to see a Tarantula which was huge, furry and very cool.” – Star “I really enjoyed seeing how big the Moa was. We got to see a live Giant Weta and I learnt that Wetas are important in the bush as they help fertilize the plants.” – Georgia “I liked seeing the fish, they were colourful and were funny to watch. My favourite part of the day was when the Weta did a poop on the floor – it was really funny.” - Liam
