Welcome to Discovery Room. My name is Jo Wilson and I am privileged to be the teacher of this vibrant class of year 5 & 6 children.
During term 2 the children were challenged both academically and physically. The poem below describes the fun we all had last term.
Another exciting term awaits us with persuasive argument speeches, visits from the Intermediate and Life Ed, creating visual pepeha, and investigating "Flight" in the school wide concept of SKY.
Discovery – Term 2 (A poem created by the Discovery Class)
Mud Run – Where we dove into the stagnant slurping shoe-stealing mud pit. Cross Country – Where we battled through slush and dew, side stepping sheep poo to try and win the race.
EPro8 – Where children engineered impossible mechanisms of technology.
Netball Fun Day – Where students bolt down the court and struggle for the ball, tossing the ball through the hoop.
P.E. – Where we explore new games, burn off energy and discover each other’s skills.
Intermediate Production – Where we huddled on stiff black seats while the Intermediate kids wowed us with a wizard.
Topic – Where Vikings invade our brains with pagan gods, longboats and swords.
Maths – Where brain-teasing algorithms rush through our mathematical minds; children begging for more.
Writing – Where words flutter and scramble across the pages of our writers notebooks. Where authors fingers dance across the laptop keys for the Raglan Competition.
Writing Letters – Where new friends are made that we haven’t yet met. Nerves jangling, anticipation screaming – who will write and when will they arrive?
Daily Five – Where we teleport to new pages, foreign lands and faraway planets.
Poetry – Where your poetic impulses come to life and express themselves on the page.
Te Reo – Where Te Reo ignites our Maori instincts.
Teacher Reading – Where war-torn children melt our hearts with emotional cliff hangers.
New Students – Where strangers become friends, where classrooms grow and role models mature making
