My name is Clare Gow and I am excited to be the teacher this year in Adventure Room. We are made up of 22 Year 4 and 5 students.
his year has been very different for all students. The children in Adventure have shared their different experiences over this term.
In Adventure Room learning from home for 7 weeks was a new experience for all of us. We all had our Google accounts and would receive work that Miss Gow would share with us. We did a lot of work on the computer. Miss Gow would teach us maths on video and post it on Seesaw for us to watch. To show our school work, we had to email Miss Gow and share documents with her. Instead of taking home readers, we read on PMeCollection which had lots of books. We had Zoom meetings twice a week and 2 of them were dress up. It was fun to see our friends on video. Caitlin and Kian
When we returned to school there were some changes for while we were at Level 2. We needed to sanitize our hands, you can’t use the drinking fountains and you need to keep your personal space. We also have to have our own stationary and pencil case instead of all sharing everything. Jack and Xavier.
When we returned to school after lockdown we did some weaving. The weaving symbolised how when you work together you can achieve more. Each strip represented an unsung hero, the people that worked together to help others during the lockdown. They were doctors, farmers, nurses, freight drivers and all New Zealanders that did their part and stayed at home. Kieran, Niello and Jacob.
Our topic for term 2 was Toku Hauora, Toku Oranga - My Health, My Well Being. We learnt about our main organs in our body. We learnt that the brain is the control centre of our body so that means it is like the boss. We learnt that your heart is a muscle which contracts to pump blood all around your body. We have a body on the wall which we are adding organs to as we learn about them. Antalya and Karma
Something new this term is that we do Morning Challenge during Reading time. What is Morning Challenge? It has word of the day which we learn and put into a sentence, it has some quick maths, it has a continent of the day which we use an atlas to find some countries in that continent, and it has some mistakes which we have to try and spot! Miss Gow reads with groups while we all work on the morning challenge. Katie, Maia and Jaycob.
