Newsletter Week 1, Term 2

It’s fantastic to welcome our children, staff and parents back to Tahuna School for Term 2.
Term 2 has started exceptionally well and it is such a positive feel in our classrooms and out in our playground. A hallmark of our school is how our children display the ICARE Values towards others and this creates the positive feel we have. It has been great hearing children share with me their goals they have set for their learning for Term 2 as goal setting is a good way to keep things on track.

Term 2 dates
We shared the current term dates with you on Wednesday. If there are date changes or confirmations we will let you know asap. We are very much looking forward to a few more activities as current covid restrictions has allowed us to.

Netball
Welcome back to Term 2 and to the official start of the netball season. This netball season kicks off this week, with Wednesday and Thursday afternoon games at Campbell Park. A big thank you to the parents involved with coaching and managing the teams and offering of their time to complete coaching courses during the school holidays. We are fortunate to be able to enter 4 teams this year, one Year 1/2 team, two Year 3/4 teams and one Year 5/6  team. Coaches will be in contact with parents with regards to practice times etc. Good luck to all our tamariki. Give it your best, learn as much as you can, but most of all, have fun playing netball.

Painting T-Shirts
If you have any old T-Shirts that you no longer need. We would love these old T-Shirts for our children to use while they are painting.

Photo Day
Our school photos will be on Wednesday the 13th May. The flyer for individual and sibling photos went home yesterday. If you would like an individual or sibling photo please fill in the form and bring back to school office by Monday 11th May. As always there will be the class photos, sports team photos and student councillors photos, The order forms for these photos will go home after photo day for you to order.

50 Years Young
We received the book called 50 Years Young – A history of the young farmer of the year from Mr Keith Holmes, Tuit Farm Ltd for our school library. This book is a slice of history about rural New Zealand and the young farmers. We would like to thanks Keith, Tuit Farm Ltd

Also we would like to thank Dakota’s family for donating some books for children to read.

Enrolments
As our school roll is growing and farming change over is happening soon if you are aware of a family who is considering a well rounded and supportive education we invite them to come in and have a look at our school. Please contact the school office for enquiries.

COVID Isolation and Orange Covid setting
If you test positive you will need to isolate for 7 days.
Once your covid isolation ends – If less than 10 days have passed since your isolation ended, you do not need to isolate again as a household contact if someone else in your house gets COVID-19.
We begin Term 2 in the Orange Covid setting which means some changes to our school covid safety procedures.
Parents may continue to enter the school grounds before and after school when necessary.
Parents will be able to attend outdoor school events, however, there may be further one off requirements implemented for some events depending on the context.
We ask visitors to the school, including parents and whānau, wear a mask whenever they are indoors on school grounds. At Orange in schools, public health advice is that masks continue to be strongly encouraged when indoors. Wearing a mask is a key health measure that slows the spread of COVID-19 in indoor settings.
We also ask that your child (if they are Year 4+) keep their mask at school or bring it everyday in their bag. There may be times that we’ll ask them to wear a mask – for example, If there are a high number of cases at school or in the community, we may ask that masks are worn in classrooms for a time.
We will continue to keep all the other health measures in place at school that we know slow the spread of COVID-19. These include ensuring our indoor spaces are well-ventilated, maintaining good hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette, visitors reporting to the office and most importantly staying home if we are sick.
We are very much looking forward to a few less restrictions and returning to school life that is a bit closer to normal.
As always we appreciate the support with following our health measures that are guided by MOH/MOE. Also we appreciate the communication we receive from parents about confirmed cases and household contacts.
