Newsletter Week 3, Term 1

Kia ora Tahuna families and whanau,

We would like to welcome our two new children who started this week Bruno and Eddie. It has been a pleasure walking through our classrooms and seeing how our children are positively interacting with each other and it gives me a good sense that all our children are settled and focused on their learning. Due to the current covid climate our classrooms have been utilising the many outdoor spaces we have to do learning. In the playground, it is buzzing with happy children, engaging in cooperative play and enjoying the warm weather.

Covid Health Measures at Traffic Light Red
I would like to reiterate a big thankyou to our Tahuna families supporting our health measures to ensure we are safe and learning continues at school.

Important
Please let us know immediately if you, your whanau or your child are identified as a positive case or a close contact

  • Please keep your child at home if they are displaying flu like symptoms
  • We encourage all visitors to wear masks
  • If there is a confirmed case in school, I will contact the regional director of Education and Ministry of Health for guidance
  • Please report to the office when dropping off or picking up your child during the school day.
  • If a parent or visitor needs to pick up their child during the school day, A staff member will go to the classroom and collect the child for the parent or visitor.

Household members of close contact – Previously, people that live with a close contact have had to isolate until the close contact returned a negative 5 day test. We have been informed by both our National Office and the Waikato DHB that this will no longer be required in our region and that household members do not need to isolate and can continue working and attending school.

Big Focus Term 1 – Participating and Belonging
A key focus is each class has their own class treaty or set of expectations of how they conduct themselves to allow all members to feel safe, learn, and care for each other. Some activities that we have planned for Term 1 support and celebrate our key focus like the Dr Suess dress up Day, Swimming sports and house competition. We looked forward to these events and we can’t wait to see our children getting involved.

FOS
The Tahuna School Friends of School Committee (FOS) is currently looking for helpers. The FOS is a group of parents that help the school fundraise for resources and special projects that enrich the school environment and benefit our children. Some of our great fundraisers are the annual Fishing Competition, the Quiz night that was held for the first time last year and the Oxford pie orders, along with many others.

We are looking for help with organising events as a one off, help with the chicken sheds or attending the committee meetings and helping with some of the smaller fundraisers. We make regular donations to the School Board of Trustees which have previously helped with the funding of the new court turf, as well as resources for the school. Meetings are usually informal and are held every couple of months unless we have an event requiring extra planning. If you would like to know more, please contact one of the current committee members (Andrew Kay, Anna Shapland-Mohring, Brylee Budd, Sarah Barlow and Stacey Williams), enquire at the office or look out for our next meeting in the newsletter and come along.

We look forward to seeing some new members soon!

TOD
On Friday the 18th March we have a teacher only day. School teaching staff are awarded 8 teacher only days as part of the Collective Agreement Accord for workload and or professional development. This TOD we will be working with our PLD facilitator Tabitha Leonard on our localised curriculum. These days need to be completed by July 2022.

Wheels Wednesdays
Wheels Wednesday is always a great day for our children and it’s fantastic to see so many children bringing wheels to have fun on. Just a quick reminder on Wheels Wednesday the children who want to use a scooter, skateboard, ripstick or drift trike must bring shoes and a helmet as these need to be worn, Thank you.

Sponsor our school
We have been very fortunate to have many of our existing sponsors continuing to show great support this year and we have had new sponsors join us this year. We would like to welcome Farm Cottage Compliance for coming aboard this year.

Ngaa mihi
